A clear monday evening was chosen for our first crane climb. The Anglo-Works is a small Grade 2 listed city centre cutlery factory. I am unsure of when it first closed, but it has laid in a semi derelict state behind one of the busiest streets in the city of Sheffield for quite some time. Mini had noticed the crane had sprung up from the buildings midst some time before, and before we knew it we were at the base of the building.
The security on site was poor, and we were soon through the ten foot fencing and at the cranes base. I noticed the base / foundation was filled with water. Don’t know if this is normal or not, but anyway, the usual wooden box that surrounds the bottom of cranes for entry was left open and it was easy to get on to, the only problem being the tapas bar that we over looked as soon as we climbed past the first storey.
Mini ascended to the top, and took the photos while i waited about 2 thirds of the way up, and then it was back down again and out with little to no problems. A great climb, if not the tallest crane in the world.
